Lithuania’s Foreign Minister meets new U.S. Ambassador
On 6 February, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with the new Ambassador of the United States of America to Lithuania Robert S. Gilchrist.
The Foreign Minister congratulated the new U.S. Ambassador on assuming his duties in Lithuania, discussed the strengthening of transatlantic cooperation, the close bilateral relationship between Lithuania and the U.S., welcomed economic ties and presented regional security threats, also the fight against disinformation and issues relating to the unsafe Ostrovets nuclear power plant.
“We thank our strategic ally – the United States of America – for its long-standing partnership and support to Lithuania. The U.S. political, economic and military engagement with our region guarantees security and stability. On 23 July, together with the U.S. we will commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Welles Declaration. We will once again remember the U.S. non-recognition policy, condemning the forcible Soviet incorporation of Lithuania and of the Baltic states,” said the Foreign Minister L. Linkevičius.
Robert S. Gilchrist is the fifteenth U.S. Ambassador to Lithuania. Lithuania and the U.S. established their diplomatic relations in 1922.
