On 10 July, 2019 the Delegation of Lithuania took the floor at the 41st session of the Human Rights Council in the general debate on technical assistance and capacity building. The Deputy Permanent Representative of Lithuania expressed Lithuania’s appreciation and full support for the work of OHCHR in providing technical assistance to Georgia.
Lithuania once again called for full and unhindered access for the international human rights monitors to Georgia’s regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia occupied by Russia. Lithuania remains very concerned about the situation of IDPs and refugees from Abkhazia and Tskhinvali region in Georgia who continue to be deprived of their right to safe, dignified and voluntary return, as well as about the ongoing ‘borderisation’, kidnappings, widespread impunity for crimes and human rights violations and new restrictions on freedom of movement, lack of access to health care and to education in native language in the Russia-controlled areas of Georgia.
