It was with deep sorrow that we learned about the death of Valdas Senkus, Lithuanian citizen employed by the British Red Cross and seconded to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) for its operations in South Sudan, who passed away on Sunday, 30 September at his residence in South Sudan.
According to the ICRC, his death was not related to the conflict in South Sudan. Our heartfelt condolences go to his family and colleagues.
At this moment of sorrow, we commend the selfless dedication of the ICRC staff and other employees and volunteers of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement who pursue their noble humanitarian activities in difficult and unsafe environments and we strongly support their work in conflict-affected countries and disaster-hit areas.
