At the International Labour Conference Lithuanian Ambassador Stresses Importance of Green Eeconomy
On 8 June, Lithuanian Ambassador to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Geneva Andrius Krivas delivered a statement at the 106th session of the International Labour Conference, taking place in Geneva, and highlighted the importance of implementing International Labour Organization’s Green Initiative in labour world, especially in the context of achieving necessary changes in the structure of economy and the technologies used in order to mitigate the consequences of climate change.
“The labour world does not only face challenges caused by the measures preventing climate change and mitigating its consequences, but it also impacts them. Proper and efficient work, full inclusion of social partners into decision-making, sustainable businesses and economic transformation play an important role in climate change prevention and mitigation of consequences”, stated A. Krivas. Ambassador invited all participants of the conference to take part in solving the challenges faced by today’s labour world by developing necessary capacities of qualified labour force and transitioning to green economy.
The 106th session of the International Labour Conference is taking place on 5-16 June where Lithuania is represented by delegates from the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour of the Republic of Lithuania, Lithuanian Confederation of Employers, Lithuanian Trade Union “Solidarunas” and Lithuanian Permanent Mission to the UN Office and other International Organizations in Geneva. The delegates of ILO Member States will be discussing such topical issues as labour migration, employment and decent work, strategic objectives of fundamental principles and rights at work.
