At WIPO negotiations, Lithuania seeks that patent system stimulate innovation and ensure availability of innovative products
On 9-12 July, the WIPO Standing Committee on the Law of Patents held its 28th session in Geneva.
The Committee intensively discussed issues related to quality of patents, patents for pharmaceutical products and medical technologies as well as exceptions and limitations to patent rights and other issues of international patent law. Lithuania, being coordinator of the Central European and Baltic States Group this year, represented the Group’s position while seeking for a delicate balance between protection of patent right holders and public interests, including in the public health sector, in order that the patent system should both incentivise creativity and ensure availability of innovative products. Deputy Director of the Lithuanian State Patent Bureau Žilvinas Danys and Counsellor of the Permanent Mission of Lithuania in Geneva Renata Rinkauskienė took part in the work of the Standing Committee on the Law of Patents.
