COLLABORATION WITH CERN
On 26th of October Ambassador Rytis Paulauskas visited the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN), where he was welcomed by the Advisor to the Director-General, in charge of relations with International Organizations Dr. Maurizio Bona. Dr. Maurizio Boda presented major research projects of the Organisation as well as instruments used at CERN like particle accelerators. to In relation the Lithuanian scientific contribution to the world’s science, several possibilities were considered in line with the further collaboration between CERN and the Lithuanian scientists, including an opportunity for Lithuanian students and teachers to pursue trainings in Geneva.
CERN is one of the world’s largest and most respected centres for scientific research. In 2007 Lithuania signed the agreement with CERN, which gave permission to the Lithuanian scientists to participate in various researches. This also provides the Industry of Lithuanian High Technology with a possibility to participate in competitions regarding production of unique CERN’s equipment. The collaboration with CERN brought new initiatives into Lithuania and particularly new modern technology (grid). Currently, there are 13 scientists from Lithuania working on projects at CERN, which essentially unites 10 000 scientists from 110 states.
