Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization invited to visit Lithuania
On 20 July, during the 63rd General Assembly of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Mr. Arūnas Jievaltas, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Lithuania to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva, and Ms. Lina Mickienė, Acting Director of the State Patent Bureau of the Republic of Lithuania, met with Mr. Daren Tang, the Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization, and conveyed the invitation of the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Lithuania Ms. Ewelina Dobrowolska to visit Lithuania.
During the meeting, views were shared on the project of the Baltic States regional network of technology transfer offices (TTOs), which is implemented with the engagement of WIPO and is aimed to develop the capacity of the academia to commercialize intellectual property, promote transfer of knowledge and technology, share information and knowledge within the network and with the public, build and develop professional relations with foreign partners.
Implementing this project, the launching event of the Baltic States TTO network will take place in Vilnius in October, this year. On this occasion, the memorandum of understanding between the Baltic States TTO network and the World Intellectual Property Organization will be officially signed. The Director General of WIPO Mr. Daren Tang has been invited to take part in this event.
The delegation of Lithuania expressed gratitude to WIPO for its expert and technical assistance to national authorities in promoting the use and protection of intellectual property, as well as WIPO's active role in strengthening the global intellectual property system.
WIPO is a global forum for intellectual property services, policy, information and cooperation to build a balanced and effective international framework for the protection of intellectual property that fosters innovation and creativity. This specialized United Nations agency brings together 193 member states. Lithuania became a member of WIPO in 1992.
