In Geneva, Lithuania makes a statement on technical assistance to Georgia

On 21 March, 2019 the Delegation of Lithuania took the floor at the 40th session of the Human Rights Council in the general debate on technical assistance and capacity building. The Permanent Representative of Lithuania Ambassador Andrius Krivas expressed Lithuania’s appreciation and full support for the work of OHCHR in providing technical assistance to Georgia and commended Georgia’s close cooperation with the OHCHR.

Lithuania once again called for full and unhindered OHCHR access to Georgia’s regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, which are under Russia’s illegal military control. The widespread abuses of human rights there as well as killings of Georgian citizens David Basharuli, Giga Otkhozoria and Archil Tatunashvili and the recent death of Georgian IDP Irakli Kvaratskhelia, are severe consequences of continuous unlawful occupation and require immediate attention.
