In Geneva, Lithuania Takes the Floor in UN Debate on Human Rights in Ukraine

On 15 December 2017, Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights Kate Gilmore presented to delegates in Geneva an oral update on the human rights situation in Ukraine on the basis of the 20th periodic report by the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine.

The Lithuanian Delegation took the floor in the debate following the presentation. In its statement, Lithuania expressed support to Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity and condemned Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, which is also the major cause of human rights violations in Donbass and the illegally occupied Crimea. Lithuania supported the OHCHR recommendation to Russia to implement the UN General Assembly resolutions with regard to Crimea and to grant all international human rights monitoring mechanisms full and unhindered access to all Russia-controlled parts of Ukrainian territory.
