In Geneva, Lithuania took the floor in interactive dialogue on human rights defenders
On 4 March, the Delegation of Lithuania took the floor at the 43rd Human Rights Council session in the interactive dialogue on human rights defenders.
The Permanent Representative of Lithuania Ambassador Andrius Krivas condemned the intimidation and reprisals against human rights defenders working in conflict and post-conflict areas, including under foreign occupation and called to ensure their rights and protection, both online and offline. Lithuania commends cooperation between human rights defenders and the OHCHR, special procedures and international human rights mechanisms, which is vital in ensuring human rights monitoring in areas where international scrutiny is limited or absent.
The Geneva-based Human Rights Council was established in 2006. Its 47 members are elected from among the UN Member States. Lithuania takes part in the work of the Council as an observer. Lithuania has presented its candidacy to the Human Rights Council for the term 2022-2024.
