In Geneva, Lithuania took the floor in interactive dialogue on Rohingya and other minorities in Myanmar
On 27 March, the Delegation of Lithuania took the floor at the 43rd Human Rights Council session in the interactive dialogue with the High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet on the root causes of the human rights violations and abuses against Rohingya and other minorities in Myanmar.
The Permanent Representative of Lithuania Ambassador Andrius Krivas expressed his country’s deep concern over the human rights violations and abuses against Rohingya women and girls, undue constraints on independent media and continued harassment against journalists and activists who raise awareness of human rights violations and abuses. Lithuania called on Myanmar to ensure responsibility for human rights violations and abuses and to cooperate with international human rights mechanisms, and expressed its support for international community’s efforts to uphold responsibility at the ICJ and ICC.
The Geneva-based Human Rights Council was established in 2006. Its 47 members are elected from among the UN Member States. Lithuania takes part in the work of the Council as an observer. Lithuania has presented its candidacy to the Human Rights Council for the term 2022-2024.
