In Geneva, Lithuania took the floor in the general debate on human rights bodies and mechanisms
On 13 March 2019, at the 40th session of the Human Rights Council the Delegation of Lithuania expressed Lithuania‘s firm support for the special procedures of the Human Rights Council, which play a crucial role in improving human rights situation and in preventing human rights violations.
Lithuania called on all UN member states to fully cooperate with mandate holders, grant them unhindered access irrespectively of state’s position on the respective mandate and encouraged UN member states to issue a standing invitation to special procedures.
The Permanent Representative of Lithuania Ambassador Andrius Krivas welcomed the report presented by Professor Dainius Pūras, the Chair of the Coordinating Committee. Lithuania appreciates and encourages the efforts of the special procedures to enhance the coordination of their work.
Lithuanian Delegation called on all states and the Council to promptly and effectively address all cases of reprisals and intimidation against stakeholders cooperating with human rights mechanisms.
