On 26 June 2019, at the 41st session of the Human Rights Council the Permanent Representative of Lithuania Ambassador Andrius Krivas expressed Lithuania‘s firm support for the mandates of UN Special Rapporteurs on the promotion and protection of the right to freedom of opinion and expression and on the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and of association and their work.
Lithuania is a consistent supporter of the rights to freedoms of opinion and expression, peaceful assembly and association, which are indispensable pillars of democratic governance and open societies. At this session, together with the Czech Republic, Indonesia, Maldives and Mexico, Lithuania presents a resolution on the renewal of the mandate of the Special Rapporteur on the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and of association. Lithuanian delegation called on all states to support the resolution and expressed its hope that the resolution will be adopted by consensus.
The Geneva-based Human Rights Council was established in 2006. Its 47 members are elected from among the UN Member States. Lithuania takes part in the work of the Council as observer. Lithuania has presented its candidacy to the Human Rights Council for the term 2022-2024.
