In Geneva, Lithuania took the floor in the interactive dialogue on violence against women and trafficking in persons

On 27 June 2019, at the 41st session of the Human Rights Council the Delegation of Lithuania participated in the interactive dialogue on combatting violence against women and trafficking in persons.

The Permanent Representative of Lithuania Ambassador Andrius Krivas emphasized that gender equality and women’s and girls’ rights were among Lithuania’s foreign policy priorities and expressed Lithuania’s strong support for the mandate and work of the Special Rapporteur on violence against women, its causes and consequences.

Lithuania welcomed CEDAW’s ongoing effort to develop a General Recommendation on Combatting Trafficking in Women and Girls in the context of global migration, which will provide guidance on how states can better respect, protect and fulfil women’s and girls’ human rights in the context of trafficking and global migration.

The Geneva-based Human Rights Council was established in 2006. Its 47 members are elected from among the UN Member States. Lithuania takes part in the work of the Council as observer. Lithuania has presented its candidacy to the Human Rights Council for the term 2022-2024.
