In Geneva, Lithuania took the floor in the interactive dialogue with the High Commissioner for Human Rights

On 7 March 2019, the Delegation of Lithuania at the 40th session of the UN Human Rights Council took the floor in the interactive dialogue with the High Commissioner for Human Rights H. E. Michelle Bachelet.

The Permanent Representative of Lithuania to the UN Office and other International Organizations in Geneva Ambassador Andrius Krivas reaffirmed Lithuania’s full support for High Commissioner’s mandate and activities of her Office and said that Lithuania shared the Commissioner’s concern about the increasingly widespread attacks on journalists and media freedoms. Safety of journalists and freedom of expression are key enablers for all human rights and fundamental freedoms and remain a very high priority on Lithuania’s foreign policy agenda.

The Geneva-based Human Rights Council was established in 2006. Its 47 members are elected from among the UN Member States. Lithuania takes part in the work of the Council as an observer. Lithuania has presented its candidacy to the Human Rights Council for the term 2022-2024.
