International Girls in ICT Day

On 27 April, the International Girls in ICT Day was celebrated for the sixth time, the goal of which is to encourage young girls in school to actively choose the information and communication technology-related fields of study and subsequent professional careers.

Today, 130 countries around the world held events where schoolgirls were able to showcase their IT projects. On this day in Geneva, the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) organized a teleconference with the events held in Vilnius and Beirut, Lebanon. During the teleconference, young girls participating in these events where greeted by the Deputy Secretary-General of ITU, Mr. Malcolm Johnson, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Lithuania to the UN Office and other International Organizations in Geneva, Ambassador Andrius Krivas and the Permanent Representative of Lebanon, Ambassador Najla Riachi Assaker. During the teleconference all the girls played an online game where they had to give correct answers related to questions about the ICT. A Lithuanian girl named Barbora was among the winners of the game. Congratulations!
