Lithuania Announced a Voluntary Contribution to the UNHCR Budget

On 7 December the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Lithuania to the UN Office and other International Organizations in Geneva Ambassador Andrius Krivas made a statement at the annual UNHCR Pledge Conference.

The Ambassador expressed Lithuania’s support for UNHCR leadership in the area of refugee protection and stressed that Lithuania would continue its works toward receiving refugees fleeing conflicts and violence under its voluntarily-accepted EU relocation quota. Lithuania consistently increases its participation in the international humanitarian activities through contributions to the regular budgets of the agencies involved in humanitarian activities and through voluntary contributions. The Ambassador noted that this year Lithuania had contributed 30,000 euros to the UNHCR humanitarian assistance programme in Afghanistan to help Afghan refugees to voluntarily return from the neighbouring countries. In 2017, Lithuania pledged a voluntary contribution of 20,000 euros to the UNHCR’s budget.
