Lithuania announced humanitarian assistance to Yemen
On 25 April, a High-level pledging event for the Humanitarian Crisis in Yemen, organised by the UN Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) together with the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Sweden and Switzerland, took place at the United Nations Office in Geneva. As the armed conflict continues, Yemen remains the largest humanitarian crisis in the world, where 18.8 million people are in need of humanitarian or protection assistance, including 10.3 million who require immediate assistance to save or sustain their lives.
During the pledging event, Lithuania expressed its deep concern over the humanitarian situation in Yemen, and especially the consequences the continued conflict inflicts on Yemen’s civilian population. It was noted that Lithuania continues to support international humanitarian organisations and humanitarian staff, in order to contribute to the humanitarian effort helping the most affected communities. At the event, Lithuania announced its pledge of 20 000 euros for the Yemen Humanitarian Pooled Fund, an un-earmarked contribution which will be directed to the underfunded humanitarian aid programmes.
