Lithuania announced humanitarian assistance to Yemen

On 26 February, a High-level pledging event for the Humanitarian Crisis in Yemen, organised by the UN Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) together with the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Sweden and Switzerland, took place at the United Nations Office in Geneva. As the armed conflict continues, Yemen remains the largest humanitarian crisis in the world, where more than 24 million people are in need of humanitarian or protection assistance, including 15 million who require immediate assistance to save or sustain their lives.

At the pledging event, Political Director of Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Asta Skaisgirytė expressed deep concern over the humanitarian situation in Yemen, especially the consequences the continued conflict inflicts on Yemen’s civilian population, and called on all parties of conflict to seek a political solution to the conflict. At the event, Asta Skaisgirytė announced Lithuania’s pledge of 20 000 euros for the United Nations Yemen Humanitarian Pooled Fund.
