Lithuania-CERN Joint Liaison Committee Evaluates First Year of Lithuania’s Associate Membership
On 11 January, one year after the entry into force of Lithuania’s status of Associate Member at CERN, Lithuania-CERN Joint Liaison Committee held its first meeting at the headquarters of CERN in Geneva.
Lithuania was represented by Adviser to the President of the Republic Dr. Saulė Mačiukaitė-Žvinienė, President of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences Prof. Jūras Banys, Adviser to the Prime Minister Mr. Lukas Savickas, Vice-Minister of Economy and Innovation Mr. Gintaras Vilda, Director of the Lithuanian Innovation Centre Dr. Mantas Vilys and diplomats of the Permanent Mission of Lithuania in Geneva. CERN was represented by its Director for International Relations Mrs. Charlotte Warakaulle, Head of Associate Member and non-Member State Relations Prof. Emmanuel Tsesmelis, CERN officer in charge of relations with Lithuania Prof. Christoph Schäfer and other experts. The Committee reviewed the first year of Lithuania’s associate membership at CERN and identified short- and longer-term tasks in promoting Lithuania’s participation in scientific projects at CERN, closer industrial relations and knowledge transfer as well as engaging Lithuanian teachers and students in CERN education programmes.
