Lithuania delivered statements at the 140th session of the WHO Executive Board

On 23 January – 1 February Lithuanian delegation participated at the 140th session of the Executive Board of the World Health Organization (WHO). Decisions of the Executive Board will be adopted by all 194 Member States at the World Health Assembly which will take place on 22-31 May in Geneva.

At the session of WHO Executive Board participant countries discussed the implementation of WHO’s reform, improvement of management efficiency and financing of WHO’s programmes. Antimicrobial resistance, implementation of Global vaccine action plan, promoting the health of migrants and WHO response in large-scale emergencies were also discussed among other public health topics of global importance. Executive Board Member States shortlisted three candidates, nominated by the governments of Ethiopia, Pakistan and the United Kingdom, to the post of WHO Director-General. The elections to this post will be held at the World Health Assembly.

Lithuania made two national statements at this session regarding the proposed programme budget for 2018-2019 by WHO’s secretariat and progress in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.
