Lithuania made a statement at the 5th Review Conference of CCW

On 12 December the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Lithuania to the UN Office and other International Organizations Ambassador Andrius Krivas made a statement at the 5th Review Conference the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons (CCW), which is taking place on 12-16 December.

Ambassador stressed that CCW and its Protocols are a unique forum bringing states together to balance military necessity with humanitarian concerns. A. Krivas encouraged all states that are not yet party to join the Convention and its Protocols without delay and to ensure the protection of civilians during armed conflicts.

The Review Conference will take decisions on further discussions on lethal autonomous weapon systems (LAWS) and mines other than antipersonnel mines (MOTAPM). Ambassador expressed Lithuania’s support for the continuation of these discussions at the CCW in search for a broader concurrence of views on these issue
