Lithuania Made a Statement on the Human Rights Situation in Ukraine

On 12 December, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights presented an oral report on the human rights situation in Ukraine. Lithuania took part in the dialogue.

Lithuanian Permanent Representative Ambassador Andrius Krivas expressed concern about the human rights situation in the conflict zones in Ukraine. Lithuania considers the annexation of the Crimea and Russia's support for the armed separatist groups in Ukraine's east to be the main cause fo the conflict-related loss of human life, destruction and human rights violations. He called upon Russia and the armed groups it supports to stop the systematic violation of human rights in Ukraine and to grant the United Nations Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine and other international human rights monitoring mechanisms full and unhindered access to the territories under their control in the illegally annexed Crimea and parts of Ukraine's Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
