Lithuania signed the Resolution of UNECE Inland Transport Committee

On 21 January, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Lithuania to the United Nations Office and other intenational organizations in Geneva Ambassador Anrius Krivas signed the Resolution of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Inland Transport Committee on behalf of the Republic of Lithuania, which indicates further activities of the Organization in the field of transport.

This Ministerial meeting was dedicated to mark the 70th Anniversary of the Committee. After the discussion of the future priorities, the Resolution emphasized the importance of coherence between the Committee's work and the Sustainanle Development Goals. Ministers encouraged all Member States of the Committee as well as NGOs to pay more attention to climate change issues and the development of sustainable transport systems, ensure the safety and capacity of international transport corridors while developing intergovernmental cooperation in this area.

In the meeting the emphasis was also put on the preparedness of the Committee members to encourage further integration of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and autonomous driving, development of regional and intercontinental transport networks, contribution to voluntary development of indicators of road safety, improvement of road safety for all modes of transport, and reduction of road fatalities by half by 2020.
