Lithuanian Delegation Participates in the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) Council Session

On 17-27 April, a Lithuanian delegation led by Feliksas Dorovolskis, Director General of the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) and Dr. Mindaugas Žilinskas, Deputy Director General of the CRA takes part in the ITU Council annual meeting in Geneva.

This year’s Council meeting aims to prepare for the 2018 ITU Plenipotentiary Conference (PP) scheduled to take place this autumn in Dubai, UAE. Held every four years, the PP is the key event at which ITU Member States decide on the future of the organization as well as elect its top officials and members of administrative bodies. For the elections to be held at PP-18, Lithuania presented the candidature of Dr. Mindaugas Žilinskas to the post of the ITU Radiocommunications Bureau Director as well Lithuania’s candidacy for re-election to the ITU Council from the Western Europe region.

Lithuania acceded to the ITU on 1 July 1923. Upon regaining independence, it renewed the membership on 12 October 1991.
