Permanent Representative of Lithuania Met with ILO Director-General
On 13 October, the Permanent Representative of Lithuania to the UN Office and other International Organisations in Geneva, Ambassador Andrius Krivas, made an office call on the Director-General of the International Labour Organisation, Mr. Guy Ryder. They discussed the major objectives of the ILO and Lithuania’s priorities in that regard.
Ambassador Krivas reminded that Lithuania became a member of the ILO in 1921 and renewed its membership on 4 October 1991. He stressed that Lithuania actively participated in the activities of the ILO not only by implementing ILO conventions and recommendations and ratifying new international work standards, but also by contributing to the improvement of the Organization’s activities and its adaptation to today’s context. Lithuania is also a member of the Standards Review Mechanism Tripartite Working Group. Director-General Ryder underlined strong relations between the ILO and Lithuanian institutions, employers’ and employees’ organizations, and the solid personal contribution by the Lithuanian Minister of Social Security and Labour, Mrs. Algimanta Pabedinskienė, to this excellent cooperation.
The interlocutors also discussed the results of the recent summit meetings in New York on migrants and refugees and the role of the International Labour Organization in drafting the provisions of a future Global Compact on Safe, Regular and Orderly Migration regarding labour market and ensuring the right to work.
