The Baltic States Technology Transfer Centres Network (TTO) launched in Vilnius

27 October (Vilnius). An international conference of the Baltic Technology Transfer Centres Network was held in Vilnius to launch the Baltic Technology Transfer Centre Network (TTO). The conference was attended by the Delegation of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), headed by the Assistant Director General of WIPO, Mr. Marco M. Aleman, Rectors of the Baltic States universities, Heads of Patent Bureaus of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, members of academia and business community of the Baltic States.

Participants of the event shared their experience in establishing a technology transfer centres network and views on strengthening innovation ecosystems in the Baltic region. During the event, a memorandum on cooperation and expert assistance was signed between WIPO and the Baltic States universities.

A cooperation agreement between the State Patent Bureau of Lithuania and the Lithuanian TTO network, which unites five state universities, was also signed.

As noted by the Director of the State Patent Bureau of the Republic of Lithuania Ms. Irina Urbonė, strengthening of transfer of knowledge and technologies and management of intellectual property is essential in enhancing accurate use of scientific research results for the benefit of society.

For this reason, the Lithuanian TTO network in 2020 and the Baltic States TTO network at the beginning of this year were established. The Baltic States TTO network is the first of its kind in the world, aimed at promoting the transfer of knowledge and technologies, sharing of information and development of professional relations with foreign networks and partners.

WIPO delegation had meetings with the Minister of Education, Science and Sport Ms. J. Šiugždinienė, the Minister of Justice Ms. E. Dobrowolska, the Vice Minister of Economy and Innovation Ms. I. Valeškaitė, the Director of the Innovation Agency Ms. R. Stragienė. During these meetings, the priorities and challenges of Lithuania's intellectual property policy, cooperation projects and future activities were discussed with the aim to encourage business and creative society to make better use of intellectual property opportunities, thus contributing to Lithuania's breakthrough in the field of innovation.
