The Human Rights Committee considers Lithuania's fourth periodic report

On 10–11 July in Geneva, the United Nations Human Rights Committee considered the fourth periodic report submitted by Lithuania in accordance with the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.

The Lithuanian delegation was led by Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Neris Germanas and included the Director of the Department of National Minorities, representatives of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Justice, Social Security and Labour, and Interior, as well as of the Prosecutor General’s Office. The members of the delegation informed the Committee on the national laws, policies and practical measures Lithuania has taken in order to implement the provisions of the Covenant. The Committee is expected to adopt concluding observations and make further recommendations to Lithuania by the end of July.

Lithuania acceded to the 1966 Covenant on Civil and Political Rights on 20 November 1991. The Human Rights Committee monitors implementation of the Covenant by its State Parties. All states parties are obliged to submit regular reports to the Committee on how the rights are being implemented.
