Lietuvos poziciją Baltarusijos klausimu šiandien išsakė nuolatinis atstovas Rytis Paulauskas Žmogaus teisių tarybos formate:

Lithuania expects the Belarusian authorities to hold the upcoming presidential elections in accordance with international standards. Any deterioration in the human rights area should be strictly avoided before and after these elections. Acts of repression are not a sustainable and acceptable way to ensure political stability in the country. In line with numerous calls from the international community, we urge the Belarusian authorities to immediately release all political prisoners ensuring their full rehabilitation, to abort restrictive provisions regulating mass media and to ensure freedom of opinion and expression. We strongly believe that democracy and rule of law can be achieved only through the respect of all fundamental human rights and freedoms. Finally, Lithuania expresses its continued support for your mandate and its further extension. We also urge the Government of Belarus to reconsider its decision and to fully cooperate with your mandate and to implement comprehensively all the recommendations presented in this and your previous reports.
